Category:Public financeA man who had taken his car for repairs was stranded in McDonald’s car park in Co Waterford last night when he fell asleep and ran out of fuel.

Gardaí said the man had parked his car in the manager’s compound at around 7pm.

He was woken by car alarms going off and was asleep when the alarms again went off shortly before 9pm.

His vehicle was parked in the centre of the compound and was locked at this point. The alarm was also activated.

“He went to sleep,” said a McDonald’s spokesperson. “He was not drinking or smoking.”

Gardaí said the man was woken up by another car alarm sounding. It is believed that he then tried to get out of the vehicle.

The alert system at the restaurant activated the doors, cutting the man off from the car.

When he was woken up, the car was running but there was no fuel left in the tank.

The man, who was alone at the time, was called on and he said he was in a “full value service” situation and that the door was locked.
